Picoprep is an orange-flavoured powder for oral solution containing sodium picosulfate, magnesium oxide and citric acid. It is a bowel-cleansing medicine used to empty the bowel before diagnostic procedures such as colonoscopy, radiological examinations or surgery when medically required.
Use Picoprep only according to the instructions provided by a doctor or healthcare professional. The powder must be dissolved in water before administration, and adequate clear-fluid intake is important during bowel preparation. Follow the prescribed preparation schedule and the instructions supplied with the medicine.
Sodium picosulfate acts as a stimulant laxative, while magnesium oxide and citric acid form magnesium citrate in solution, producing an osmotic laxative effect. Together they promote bowel evacuation for bowel-cleansing procedures.
Each sachet contains Sodium Picosulfate 10 mg, Light Magnesium Oxide 3.5 g and Anhydrous Citric Acid 12 g.
Excipients include potassium bicarbonate, sodium saccharin and natural orange flavour containing acacia gum, lactose, ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxyanisole.
