Zomig contains zolmitriptan, a selective serotonin receptor agonist (triptan) used for the acute treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura in adults. It works by narrowing blood vessels in the brain and blocking pain pathways, effectively relieving migraine pain and associated symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound.
Zolmitriptan 2.5 mg per tablet
Provides fast relief from migraine headaches
Reduces associated migraine symptoms including nausea and sensitivity to stimuli
Available as orally disintegrating tablets or standard oral tablets
Effective within 2 hours of administration in most patients
Take as soon as migraine symptoms appear. The dose may be repeated after 2 hours if the headache returns but do not exceed 10 mg in 24 hours. The 2.5 mg dose can be given as a whole tablet or half of a 5 mg tablet. Do not exceed prescribed dosage. Consult with a healthcare provider before use.
Adults diagnosed with migraine headaches.
Not for use in prevention of migraines or for cluster headaches
Should not be used by patients with cardiovascular disease unless cleared by a doctor
Consult physician if pregnant, nursing, or taking other medications
Possible side effects include dizziness, tiredness, and mild throat discomfort
Common side effects may include sleepiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and nausea. Serious side effects are rare but require immediate medical attention.
